NSW Productivity Commissioner – Strata Commissions Review

The NSW Productivity Commissioner has been requested by the Minister for Better Regulation and Fair Trading to review the market impacts of prohibiting strata managing agents from accepting commissions and other conflicted payments, and to provide an evidence base to support government decision-making.

An issues paper and terms of reference has been published by the Productivity and Equality Commission which examines the challenges posed by commissions, and providing preliminary analysis on the effects of three different policy options.

The Commission is seeking feedback from owners, strata managers and providers of strata services on whether the issues paper has accurately captured the context of the issue and to consider the likely impacts of the three presented options.

SCA (NSW) has previously resolved to support and encourage members to commence a voluntary, phased replacement of insurance commissions from 1 January 2026.  We encourage all members to have a direct say in the review process through the Have Your Say/Strata Commissions Review Questionnaire and to send a copy of your feedback to SCA (NSW) President Robert Anderson at [email protected] by the close of consultation on Sunday 14 December.
