Strata Community Association (SCA NSW) is very pleased to acknowledge the award of an Order of Australia Medal to Peter Clisdell, a former President of SCA and the founder of Clisdells Strata Management and Valuations. The award was given in recognition of Peter’s contribution to the community and to the strata and real estate industries.
Peter is richly deserving of such a distinction, which was announced in the recent King’s Birthday Honours List. In the course of a career in strata management, spanning 55 years, Peter and his loyal staff have built Clisdells Strata into one of the largest and most successful strata companies in Australia. In addition, Peter also played an important role in developing the strata managers of the future as a lecturer in strata management at both the University of Sydney and Hawkesbury College of Advanced Education. He continued this work for nearly 20 years, completely “pro bono”. Since its establishment in 1980, Peter has been a keen supporter of SCA, the peak body of the strata industry, and served as its President 2003-2004.
He was awarded a Fellowship of SCA in 1995 and, then, honoured with Life Membership in 2009. Peter also served on the Board of the Home Unit Owners’ Association and acted as its Secretary for more than 10 years.
Peter’s work in the community has been equally distinguished. Peter was conscripted into the Australian Defence Force and, as a National Serviceman between 1968-1970, he served a one-year tour of duty in South Vietnam as a Second Lieutenant, attached to the Royal Australian Engineers. Following his service, he has always been a member of and great supporter of the Vietnam Veterans’ Association. In addition, he has been a generous benefactor of St. George Hospital; the Sydney Opera House; and Tuberous Sclerosis Australia, all for more than 40 years.
But, perhaps, Peter’s greatest act of community service was his extraordinary work with Angel Flight between 2009-2020. This group organises for sick children and adults from remote and regional Australia to be flown to major hospitals hundreds of miles away for specialist medical help. This organisation relies completely on the generosity and community spirit of people like Peter Clisdell, who supply the aircraft; the fuel; and their time and expertise as pilots, completely free of charge. Peter carried out nearly 250 of these flights for Angel Flight in his Cessna C200, a marvellous contribution to the community.
All members of SCA(NSW) heartily congratulate Peter Clisdell on his award of the OAM, an accolade much deserved after a life of great service.
